Through my life I have been interested in drawing. I grew up on a farm in Bartlett, Texas among the corn fields, cattle ranches, combines, and John Deere tractors. However, finally moving to, what I considered the ‘urban’ city of Georgetown, Texas, the eclectic neighborhoods and 19th century Americana captured my pen and paper. In that city I spent most of my life. Through primary and secondary school I was average in both my grades and my athletic ability, but I continued to draw every minute I had the chance.

When I was 10 years old, I met a wrinkled man at church that looked about 100 years old, but walked and talked with a young man’s ambition. George Cape, a retired Dallas Architect in the 80’s offered to help me draw, and for eight years every Saturday we went out and found everything in the city we could. He encouraged me to apply to the architecture schools around the state and see what stuck, and in 2014 I was accepted to Texas Tech University in the West Texas city of Lubbock.

There I fell in love with the field. I worked way too much for way too long, but I built an ambition for the field I never thought was possible. After finishing my first year I began my internship at Atkins North America in Austin, Texas where I met an office full of the most amazing people eager to help me learn. I spent my entire undergrad working for the firm. When I graduated and was accepted at the Taubman College of Architecture at University of Michigan, I continued to work remotely for the company.

At Taubman I was offered a new series of opportunities where I could work with CNC machines, 3D Printers, and later become a Graduate Student Instructor. I was thrilled to be offered to become a mentor, as George was to me, for a whole class of future designers. I was an instructor for an architecture summer camp called ArcStart, where 50 high school students from around the country could experience the field. After school I went to work at A2 Collaborative, an Ann Arbor startup, as a site plan designer that helped develop conceptual plans for projects, and develop the architecture for construction.
